ImageThe University Engineering Students’ Association (UESA) was awarded the prestigious Malta Engineering Excellence Award (MEEA) 2007 for Leadership at the annual reception of the Chamber of Engineers.

The Award was presented to UESA’s President Ian Buhagiar by the Minister for Competitiveness & Communications Hon Censu Galea and the President of the Chamber of Engineers Inġ Helga Pizzuto during a ceremony held at the Aviation Museum on Friday the 7th of December.

The MEEA provide recognition to individuals or organisations that have achieved outstanding engineering accomplishments that have had a significant impact on Maltese society. There are three categories in the MEEA - for Innovation, Leadership and Lifetime Achievement. These awards are organised by the Chamber of Engineers in collaboration with the Ministry for Resources and Infrastructure.

Inġ Stefan Demarco, the MEEA’s chairperson explained that this year UESA presided for a six months period over and hosted the bi-annual conference of the European Young Engineers (EYE), an association of young engineering professionals and students representing more than 150.000 members across Europe. He continued saying that those who had the opportunity to attend had words of praise for UESA who single handedly organised the event and put Malta on the map for many young European engineers.

The 2007 MEEA recipients were:

Innovation: Vodafone Malta
Leadership: University Engineering Students' Association
Lifetime Achievement: Ing. Anthony Muscat
